New Findings: "Americans feel the need to be extra careful when discussing Israel-Palestine"

Professor Shibley Telhami published a new article on March 8, 2024, with the Brookings Institution examining the latest findings of the University of Maryland Critical Issues Poll, fielded January 29-February 5, 2024. The poll asked Americans about their views on domestic and foreign policy issues including the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and ongoing Israel-Gaza war. Specifically, the poll asked Americans if they felt the need to be more careful when discussing the Israeli-Palestinian issue outside of their home. It also asked respondents if they felt the need to be more careful when discussing the Russia-Ukraine war.

"It turns out that there are substantial differences in the way Americans discuss each of these issues, with nearly three times as many Americans saying they feel the need to be extra careful when publicly discussing the Israeli-Palestinian issue as those saying the same about the Russia-Ukraine war." - Shibley Telhami, Director of the University of Maryland Critical Issues Poll
